Perhaps the hardest thing about competing in a weight class sport, is simply making the weight. Many boxers (along with wrestlers and mixed martial artists) have natural weights much higher than the class they compete in. It’s not unheard of for fighters to cut double digit pounds less than a week before stepping into the ring for their fight. Over time, this type of activity can cause huge problems in the body, including organ failure. To remedy this problem, the World Boxing Council is making a drastic, but necessary change to weigh-ins for bouts starting in January. Read more

Sweet Science History: Jack “Manassa Mauler” Dempsey
Well, it looks like we’re in for another quiet(ish) week in the boxing world. There are a few bout slated to happen, but the outcomes seem like foregone conclusions (Beterbiev and Sor Rungvisai by KO are my predictions) so I wanted to take some time for another page out of Sweet Science History. Today, let’s take a look into the life of Heavyweight Hall of Famer Jack “Manassa Mauler” Dempsey. Read more
Boxing This Weekend. Uzcategui, Groves and Haney see action!
Last weekend was a dull one for boxing fans except for one colossal match in the Heavyweight division, ending with WBA/WBO/IBF Champion Anthony Joshua knocking out high-caliber contender Alexander Povetkin. This weekend, however, is a different story with many intriguing match-ups in multiple weight divisions. Today, we’ll do it a little different and start with the lightest weight and work our way up. Let’s take a look at what we have on the boxing calendar this weekend. Read more
A Closer Look At Joshua vs. Povetkin
After the action packed, fun filled weekend we were treated too, we find ourselves wanting more boxing action! Unfortunately, this weekend seems to be a quiet one in comparison. That is unless heavyweight Titans Anthony Joshua (21-0 20KO) and Alexander Povetkin (34-1 24KO) can make some noise. Even if there isn’t a star studded supporting cast, the stage seems set for a classic Heavyweight Championship clash. Let’s take a look at the match up and I’ll give my prediction. Read more
Boxing This Weekend (9/15/18)
This is the week that the boxing world has been clamoring about for some time. Perhaps it’s the black cloud hovering over the Main Event this weekend, but I’m a little less than excited about Golovkin versus Canelo. That said, I am curious and obligated to give my predication, otherwise what type of fan would I be? There are numerous intriguing match-ups that just cry “ACTION” on paper. Let’s take a look at what’s in store shall we! Read more
Match-ups On The Horizon (Oct.-Dec. 2018)
So far, 2018 has been a fantastic year for boxing fans. We’ve been treated to some all action, high volume affairs such as the rematch between Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares, as well as some technical affairs like Danny Jacobs’ hard fought victory over Maciej Sulecki. The Cruiserweight tournament produced fireworks (as well as a clear best in class, Oleksandr Usyk) and the Super Middleweight tournament still has a Finals left to decide the winner. Sounds like a pretty stacked year, but we still have four months left! Let’s take a look at some of the bouts on the agenda for the remainder of the year (so far). Read more

Daniel Jacobs: Going Strong, or Falling Apart?
Former Middleweight World Champion Daniel Jacobs (34-2 29KO), won a hard fought battle against tough as nails challenger Maciej Sulecki (26-1 10KO) this weekend. The bout was quite competitive for a stint with Sulecki using elusive movement and a frequent jab while Jacobs landed counter punches that were effective, but not quite on the button. The bout seemed fairly close until the final round, when Jacobs set himself apart with a telling blow, causing Sulecki to touch the canvas for the first time in his career. He beat the count, but lost the fight on all score cards. What should have been a welcome victory for Jacobs, seems to have turned into a world of criticism, speculating that Jacobs is isn’t the fighter he was a year or two ago. Let’s take a more in depth look at these accusations. Read more
Dream Bouts For 2018! Part 2
In part one of this article, I went over three matches that I would love to see happen throughout the rest of 2018 (Murata vs. Andrade; Lomachenko vs. M. Garcia; Bivol vs. Kovalev http://pugilistsparadise.com/2018/04/17/dream-bouts-for-2018-part-1 for part 1). Let’s go over the remainder of my list of dream fights for 2018! If all promotional teams could just get along for once, these are the fights I’d like to be treated to. (Wilder vs. Joshua is obvious, so it’s implied and doesn’t need yet another article) Read more
